Winter Hair Style and Damage Protection Tips for Women
October 26, 2009
Just because winter days are dark and gloomy doesn’t mean your hair has to be! Your hair is full of vibrance no matter what season. Why not make it fun and fabulous? While some hair styles are suitable for summer do’s, your hair needs special attention during cold weather. The dry and cold winter can be very damaging to your hair. Hair easily becomes dry during this time of year from the dry indoor heating and the dry cold weather outside. Some hair styles can reflect an unnatural ora or seem out of place. Your hair texture varies from season to season; leaving a sticky or dry feeling when you run your fingers through it. Proper preventative care is needed to be taken during this seasons to ensure that your hair does not get damaged.
Don’t worry, we have a solution! Below are a list of helpful tips you can practice to keep your hair safe this winter including glamourous styles suitable for all hair lengths.
1. Wear a scarf, hat or cap to protect your hair from the cold and wind. Make sure the cap is loose enough so you don’t loose circulation to your scalp.
2. Use a conditioner daily.
3. Once you have your hair moist, lock in the moisture by running your hair through cold water, this will also give your hair an extra shine.
4. You risk breakage when you go outside with your hair wet. Your hair will freeze if it’s cold enough outside.
6. If you need to use a “hot” item use a leave in conditioner before using the item on your hair. What is leave in conditioner? Leave-in conditioner is a fairly self-explanatory hair care product. Unlike conditioners for your hair that you might use in the shower, leave-in conditioner is applied after you shower, and is left in the hair until the next washing. Many hair conditioners are fairly dense or contain oils, and you may notice that they’re difficult to wash out of the hair to get that squeaky clean feel. Leave-in conditione tends to rely not on oils, (though some do use oil) which could make the hair look greasy, but instead use products like glycerin, which can help calm tangled hair or impart a little moisture to dry hair.
7. Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water, use warm or cool water instead, the heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin.
8. Remember: Hair products that have the word, “Replenish.” It is made to moistureize your hair.
9. Try using a dry shampoo if you need to wash out your hair, one dry shampoo you can use is baby powder, simply sprinkle some onto your hair and use a comb to comb it off.
Volume: Adding volume to your look adds drama and balances well with more layers of bulky clothing and winter wear. Root boost sprays and volumizing shampoos can quickly add volume to a great style, while layered hair styles add textural volume or a vintage beehive hairdo can be a fun style with plenty of lift.
1. Avoid Blonde! Blonde hair can make pale skin look washed out and pallid.
2. Sun-kissed hair highlights – No sun to create them.
3. Frosted hair styles that also occur naturally in the sunlight; using these styles in the winter emphasizes that they’re not natural.
4. Darker, richer colors such as sultry brunette hair or subtle hair lowlights shades are more suitable in winter and can be just as fabulous and stunning as lighter looks.
